Fall Goathead Report

Cap'n, Thar be Goatheads!

I've been remiss in blogging about this fall's bike rides.  With temperatures in the low 80s and upper 70s, it's been a great season for late afternoon pedals.  The long shadows make for very pleasant scenery along the ditch banks.

With Glass, I've had several images selected by Google's Autoawesome.  Not sure what the algorithm is, but some results are very nice.

The bike paths are largely goathead-free...

But in some areas the vegetation is thick and the goatheads almost impenetrable.

Here's another Autoawesome from along the Gallegos Acequia while doing my North Long Loop.   Most of the ride was easy, but in some areas the crust has begun to break up revealing pockets of sugar sand that make for difficult pedaling.

Good results:  Time 25:50, pulse 117.  Almost exactly where I was in June before the summer slowdown.
